Spurs must invest to build 'top team': De Zerbi
Roberto De Zerbi said Tottenham must invest to build a "top, top team" next season after narrowly avoiding a first relegation from the Premier League for nearly half a century.
Spurs came into the final day of the season two points ahead of West Ham with a significantly better goal difference, meaning a draw would realistically be enough to secure their survival.
Joao Palhinha scored the only goal of the game in London as Tottenham beat Everton 1-0, rendering West Ham's 3-0 win at home to Leeds irrelevant.
De Zerbi was appointed in late March -- the club's third head coach of the season -- with a brief to keep them in the English top flight.
"We worked well but I'm lucky because we have a lot of big players," the relieved Italian told Sky Sports.
"You can see the game today and see that under big pressure they played fantastic with the ball. Maybe it was the best performance in my time here.
"It was an incredible game. The football was nice because if you give your best then the results will come."
De Zerbi said Tottenham already had a strong squad but needed to invest in top-quality players.
"Next season we have to build a top, top, top team," he said. "We don't have to change too many players in our squad but we have to bring in some first-level players."
